Two weeks from tomorrow!!!

I am spending a few days in Ohio and while I am away from my bike (a 2005 Cannondale R500) I figured I'd drop it off at Knapp's Cyclery for a tuneup. It already has about 2000 miles on it so I'm going to splurge on some new tires as well as whatever else needs to be adjusted. Hopefully my bike, which somehow has acquired the name Brutus (maybe because it is scarlet and gray and has a Brutus the Buckeye sticker on it), will be ready to go by June 11! I can't believe I'm heading to Providence so soon and feel like I have a lot of work to do before the day comes. For one thing, I'm hoping to get in some rides with the Princeton Free Wheelers. I also need to get some last minute gear and work on my town assignments. Oh and I need to get a physical, too...

In addition I just bought a new digital camera and am super pumped to start taking pics!

Intro (T-19 days)

I'm spending June 11-August 16 riding my bike from Providence to San Francisco! My adventure is with Bike and Build, a nonprofit organization whose motto is Pedaling to End Poverty Housing. During my nine week journey I will not only ride nearly 4,000 miles from the Atlantic to the Pacific, but spend several days at build sites too, assisting with the construction of homes for those in need.

The kids on my trip include a diverse group of college students and graduates, but we are unified in the fact that we are concerned about social justice in our country and psyched to spend a summer sleeping on floors and at campsites and sporting crazy tan lines! One of the best parts of this summer will be seeing the change we have created. When we arrive in San Francisco on August 16, we will have constructed clean and affordable living spaces for multiple families, and in the process spread awareness about the affordable housing crisis to many.

This blog is a chance for you to follow along...check out more at http://www.bikeandbuild.org/.
